Base Frieze
The Krishnalila panel here shows him lifting the Govardhana mountain (here depicted as a series of curved bumps) to shelter animals, herdsboys, and gopis. The diety below is probably Kali, and is surrounded by Vishnu on Garuda on the left and Siva on Nandi to the right. Archers in flying makara chariots, kneeling supplicants, and wrestlers constitute the rest of the scene. On a separate panel to the right is an archer on a peacock (perhaps Kartikeya). >> |
