Sultan Quli

This first mausoleum of the Qutb Shahis is a modest structure with three recessed arches on each side and a hemispherical dome. Like most tombs in the complex, the external finish is in plaster rather than carved stone. However exceptional basalt sculpture and calligraphy is to be found in the mihrabs of mosques, in the mortuary and in cenotaphs inside the tombs. Placed on the wide platform of Sultan Quli's tomb, these polished black cenotaphs are to the relatives of the sultan.
